Our Home | Before & After a Year and a Half

fixer upper

My husband TJ and I bought our fixer upper in June 2018 and let me tell you, it’s been a labor of love! I think any homeowner at all (fixer upper or not) can relate.

When we moved back here in 2017, we signed just a 10 month lease because we knew we wanted to buy a house right after we got married. We were renting in south Mount Pleasant and ideally wanted to stay in that part of town, but it’s one of the most expensive areas. So, we saw a handful of homes outside Mount Pleasant before this popped up in the MLS on a Sunday afternoon. We saw it in person two hours later.

TJ was not excited about it. It was pretty much all original from 1986 when it was built. Brown trim, brown glossy wood cabinets, a stove with a clock that rotated through each number to change the time. . . you get the picture. TJ couldn’t see the potential, but I could! It checked off all the other boxes: 3 bedrooms and 2 FULL bathrooms, brick ranch, big fenced in back yard. And it was in the area we wanted but didn’t think we could get. I convinced him to let me put in an offer and after lots of negotiating, we got it!

Here’s the original listing photos so you can get a good look at all that BROWN we we workin’ with.

Would you have seen the potential?

Over the next couple weeks I’ll be sharing the “afters” and corresponding “befores” with you. Keep in mind, this house is still a major work in progress. We honestly may never be done before we buy the next house. But it’s come a very long way after a year and a half and I want to show you how you can transform a fixer upper without spending your life savings and more.

Stay tuned!
