The Charleston Home

Before & After | Living Room

When I saw this house, my favorite features in the living room were the vaulted ceilings and wood-burning fireplace. Other than that, it needed a 180!

We started off with painting the ceiling, walls and trim. We did the “Stokes White” I mentioned in the dining room blog post— a custom color Megan from Holy City Chic came up with.

We had new windows installed last spring which eliminated the remaining brown trim.

I liked the dark accent of the fireplace but went a little lighter with a hint of blue. It’s Blindfold by Valspar.

The mantle is a constant work in progress. I can’t quite get it right and lookin’ pretty. But all these items are meaningful so I enjoy it in the meantime. The gas lamp is from my husband’s family island house in Canada. (If “island house” sounds fancy— it didn’t have electricity or plumbing!) TJ and I were featured in the wedding section in Charleston Magazine which was cool so I framed that page. The medallion is from a renovation at the Charleston Place hotel that I found at Mt Pleasant Mall. The map is, of course, a map of Charleston and the spider plant was a housewarming gift from my sister in law.

To the left of the mantle is a really big wall. It was very naked and lonely until this November when I put up a gallery wall. I wrote a whole blog post about it. I’m so happy with how it turned out. Check out this before and after.

The entryway is another constant work in progress. I’m changing it all the time. It’s already different than when this photo was taken ;) But I finally switched out the previous mirror for this one from Target and I love the way it looks with the entryway table.

Replacing that brown leather chair that I loathe
